Julian Sands, a British actor, has been proven dead after human bones discovered in a California mountain location were identified.

It has been more than five months since the 65-year-old was reported missing on January 13 in the Mount Baldy region of California's San Gabriel Mountains.

Hikers discovered the bones on Saturday morning (June 24), and a coroner has now positively identified them as Sands'.

The actor was known to be an avid hiker and mountaineer, but he did not return after a walk in the area earlier this year, according to Sky News.

Tributes paid to Julian Sands:

The actor's family issued a statement last week through the sheriff's department, saying, "We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian."

"We will always remember Julian as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer."

"Julian was a great friend and client," said Sands' representative, Sarah Jackson. He chose exciting tasks that were important to him, and everyone who worked with him admired him.

"He was a dedicated climber, and we take comfort in knowing that he died in a place he loved, doing what he loved." We have some of the most lovely recollections."

Sands, who was born in Otley, West Yorkshire, was best known for his appearances in A Room With A View, Arachnophobia, Leaving Las Vegas, The Killing Fields, and Warlock.

Vladimir Bierko in 24 and Jor-El in Smallville were two notable television appearances.

He had been married to journalist Evgenia Citkowitz since 1990, and they had two grown daughters.

Prior to that, he was married to novelist and journalist Sarah Harvey, with whom he had a son, from 1984 to 1987.
